After Prime Minister Imran Khan challenged the opposition to a debate over the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government's performance, several member of the opposition have accepted his offer.
Pakistan Muslim Legaue-N (PML-N)’s Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Pakistan People's Party (PPP)’s Raja Pervaiz Ashraf both said they would debate PM Imran in parliament, although they said that the true judges of the government's performance could be found at Raja Bazaar, the oldest and busiest market in Rawalpindi.
“We have debated inside and outside parliament and we are still ready but I think it’s time for him to go now," Ashif said, adding that the parliament had not been run properly for the last three-and-a-half years.
“We accept the challenge and are ready for a formal debate at D-Chowk," Abassi was quoted as saying in the Tribune.
Senior journalist Hamid Mir, who recently returned on air, offered to hold a live interview on his news program between PM Imran and PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
“I am ready to do a live interview with Imran Khan and if the premier wants he could invite Shehbaz or Bilawal with him," Hamid Mir said, adding that he would only ask questions related to the economy backed by official facts and figures from the State Bank of Pakistan.
Both the PTI and the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) have revved up to stage competing rallies in Islamabad on the eve of the no-confidence vote scheduled for March 28, with some concerned about a possible violent show-down between the two groups.
