Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi has claimed that foreign policy had been a bone of contention between former prime minister Imran Khan and the military establishment.
In an interview given to Voice of America Urdu, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi said that disagreements occasionally arise, and cited foreign policy as being one of them. He said that some of these disagreements got resolved, while others, like the misunderstanding with Saudi Arabia, were unable to reach a solution.
Elahi refused to give a definitive answer when asked about whether it was a foreign conspiracy or the military establishment that was responsible for Khan's removal as prime minister. Instead he said that there were many reasons that led to the ouster that it would do more harm than good to mention now.

Pervaiz Elahi also said that like Sheikh Rasheed, he was also trying to play a role in patching up the relationship between the establishment and Khan, who recently said he has blocked the numbers of those in the establishment.
The PML-Q leader said he had been trying to convince Khan against being upset at the establishment. "Our only direction should be that we only hit and attack out political opponents," he said.
He said that Imran Khan was in favor of holding elections as early as possible, and that was the purpose behind the long march. According to him, Khan wanted federal elections to happen soon, but was okay with the current provincial governments carrying on.
"There is no harm in holding polls for the national assembly now and provincial assemblies later," said Elahi in agreement.
