Journalist Amir Zia said on Wednesday the name of the new chief of army staff (COAS) must be revealed at the earliest.
Zia made the comments in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. This, he said, would bring about much-needed stability. The economy, Zia said, was the greatest challenge confronting the nation which nobody had been devoting attention to. The journalist said those called the shots when it came to appointing the top army boss often fell prey to the false impression that the named military chief would remain beholden.
He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supremo Imran Khan was not ready to negotiate with the governing coalition. Imran, Zia said, had time and again stated that if talks were held they would be conducted with the establishment. Backchannel talks currently underway, he said, were also being conducted between the two.
Anchor Shahid Maitla, separately commenting on the recent development of a Dubai-based businessman claiming to have procured Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Graff gift to then prime minister Khan, said PTI strategy on the matter was remarkably poor. Instead of arguing that no money laundering had been indulged in, no watch had been stolen and no corruption had been undertaken the party was busy branding the Dubai-based businessman a fraudster.
Flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
