PTI Has Taken Backseat On Army Chief Appointment: IK
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday that the party had taken a backseat on the appointment of the next chief of army staff (COAS).

Khan made the comments while speaking to journalists in Lahore. He said the party had now taken a backseat on the matter. The government, he said, may very well do as it pleases.

Khan said the incoming army chief should be one who secures the interests of both: the people and state institutions. No army chief, he said, contradicted the nation's aspirations.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, he said however, aspired an army chief who would secure his interests. He said the PTI was being sent feelers on negotiations but had made it abundantly clear that the part sought the conduct of free-and-fair-general elections. This, the PTI supremo said, was the remedy for all the challenges confronting the nation.
