The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) has stated that seven soldiers of the Pakistan Army laid down their lives in the line of duty, during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The operation took place in the Asman Manza area.
According to the ISPR,
“During intense exchange of fire, 5 terrorists were killed and 7 soldiers embraced shahadat.” Moreover, the military's spokesperson noted that security forces had started a search operation in that area to “eliminate any other terrorists.”
There has been a recent upsurge in terrorist activity, with attacks on security forces in both KP and Balochistan, as well as attacks targeting foreign citizens. Some of these have been attributed to or claimed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) organization.
