Pakistan, United Kingdom Ink 'Landmark' Repatriation Deal
Pakistan and the United Kingdom have signed a 'landmark' repatriation deal which will see the return of convicted criminals and immigration offenders from the UK to Pakistan.

British Home Secretary Priti Patel shared the news about the deal, which was signed today (Wednesday) on her Twitter account. She said, "I'm proud to have signed a new landmark agreement with our Pakistani friends to return foreign criminals and immigration offenders from the UK to Pakistan."

She said that the deal was meant to showcase the UK's 'New Plan for Immigration' as being put in action.

While this deal will see the return of convicted criminals in both the UK and Pakistan, however it will only be applicable for the repatriation of citizens sentenced by relevant courts.

The discussion around the repatriation treaty began in October 2019, and later in April 2021, Sheikh Rashid met British High Commissioner Christian Turner to discuss the repatriation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who has been in London since late 2019 on medical grounds.
