Karachi, Pakistan; 16 August 2024: Mastercard is bolstering its commitment to economic development in Pakistan with the inauguration of a new office in Karachi. The move is part of Mastercard’s ongoing optimization of its regional network and the recent establishment of its new East Arabia division, of which Pakistan is a key market.
The new hub opening was commemorated with an official visit by J.K. Khalil, Division President, East Arabia, Mastercard.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone in Mastercard’s journey in Pakistan, which spans more than two decades. The company has been empowering the people of Pakistan through strategic partnerships within the public and private sector.
“One of the most populous countries in the world, Pakistan has long been a key market for Mastercard. We are proud of the positive impact that Mastercard has made on Pakistan’s financial services ecosystem through collaborative partnerships between our team and extensive network of partners. Building on a legacy of more than twenty years, our new office marks the next chapter in this exciting journey and reinforces our deep commitment to the market. Khalil, Division President, East Arabia, Mastercard.
Mastercard’s expanded footprint in the market underscores its dedication to supporting financial institutions, merchants, government partners, and local communities. By giving them access to financial services and resources, the company is accelerating the digital transformation of the payments landscape.
“The opening of our new Karachi office marks a significant milestone in Mastercard’s ongoing efforts to further elevate Pakistan’s financial landscape. Thanks to the support of our partners, we are opening digital doors for all – whether through card and product launches, digital wallets fueling acceptance, or tailored solutions for businesses big and small. As we look to the future, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our extensive network of partners in the public and private sector, who are helping us build a better, more connected digital world. We remain unwavering in our commitment to shaping the future of payments and financial services in this dynamic market,” said Arslan Khan, Country Manager, Pakistan, Mastercard.
Mastercard continues to partner with key stakeholders across Pakistan to drive financial and digital inclusion. Recently, the Mastercard Strive Women program in Pakistan collaborated with a leading financial institution to enhance financial access for women-led micro and small entrepreneurs. The initiative aims to reach 1.5 million entrepreneurs in Pakistan through campaigns while directly supporting over 100,000 entrepreneurs. Strive Women builds on the success of the Ignite program, funded by the Mastercard Impact Fund, which unlocked USD 49.6 million in loans in Pakistan and directly supported more than 50,000 Pakistani entrepreneurs.
