13 Dead In Argentine City During Intense Storm

An intense storm killed at least 13 people Saturday in Argentina's seaside city of Bahia Blanca when the roof of a sports club collapsed, authorities said.

According to the mayor's office officials, the severe rains and wind that pounded Bahia Blanca caused the roof of a building where a skating competition was taking place to collapse.

"Unfortunately, the emergency service confirms the death of 13 people in the Bahiense del Norte club," the municipality said in a statement, adding that firemen were working at the scene where people remained trapped under rubble.

Winds of more than 140 kilometers per hour (87 miles per hour) were reported in the city, with portions of it losing electricity.
