Looking at the Charter of Demands put forth by Climate March Karachi, there is a two pronged strategy that is to be put in place. One prong focuses on immediate actions on the following areas:

  • Cancel Oracle-KE Coal MoU in Port Qasim. Phase out Thar coal. Make renewable energy competitive and affordable.

  • Invest in green tech, clean energy, promote manufacture, public transport, Electric Vehicles, E-Bikes. Go #Carfree Karachi. Target 50% renewables. Support farmers in sustainable, subsidized and climate resilient farming.

  • Immediate compensation by GoS for rent, livelihoods and free arrangement of safe and alternative housing for all victims of climate change such as the effectees of floods, Gujjar Nulla, Orangi Nulla, Mujahid, Wahid
    colonies and Malir among others

The second lot of demands are focused on long term developments:

  • Invest in Green Technology as a top priority of our economy, and the future of our civilization. Promote climate smart agricultural practices, including the use of drought-tolerant crops, efficient irrigation systems and agroforestry. Integrate Climate Education in our curriculum.

  • Protect Ecology: Save natural bodies: forests, rivers, oceans etc. Protect our rivers and oceans from sewage
and toxins from the industrial sector. Follow masterplans in cities- stop the urban sprawl to improve air quality and reduce the burden on resources. Enforce environmental industrial laws.

  • Food sovereignty through the use of indigenous seed and livestock protection. Promote biodiversity, agroecology and environmentally friendly food and agriculture through investments and subsidies..
