The Security Division in Islamabad has declared the formation of a new squad to ensure the security of courts and judges, The News reported on Monday.
According to the police spokesperson, the effort was designed to improve security measures and resulted in the creation of Pakistan's first Judicial Protection Unit (JPU).
The spokesman also stated that the Security Division has undergone a full reorganization under the leadership of Islamabad's Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, in order to strengthen the protection of judges' houses, offices, and court locations.
The newly established Judicial Protection Unit will be closely watched by the Security Division SSP.
Over 500 high-tech security cameras have been installed in court buildings, and a standard operating procedure (SoP) has been developed for the security of all courts.
These cameras are included in the cutting-edge Safe City Islamabad security system, allowing for direct observation of court locations.
A proposal to hire 550 personnel has already been made to the Ministry of Interior to increase the protection of homes and courts.
The performance of this unit will further advance if the required financial resources are allocated.
To improve security in the federal capital, the Islamabad Capital Police has already formed a number of units.
The Diplomatic Protection Unit (DPU), which is responsible for protecting foreign diplomats and delegations in Islamabad, is one of these units. The security of Chinese nationals and other foreigners residing and working in Islamabad is ensured by the Special Protection Unit (SPU).
The VVIP Protection Unit is also in charge of providing thorough security measures for the president and prime minister of Pakistan.
Last but not least, members of the National Assembly, federal ministers, high-ranking officials, ministries, and civil offices are all safeguarded by the High-Security Zone Protection Unit (HSZPU).
The IGP stressed that protecting national dignitaries, significant offices, and foreign embassies and diplomats in the federal capital is the driving force behind the restructuring of the Security Division.
