A third constitutional petition has been filed with the Supreme Court, this time on behalf of Aitzaz Ahsan, against the military trial of those allegedly involved in the chaotic attack on sensitive installations on May 9.
The two earlier petitions in this regard were filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the civil society. All three pleas await a response by the top court, as of now.

"It is time that noose of law is also tightened around the planners and masterminds who mounted the hate ripened and politically driven rebellion against the state and state institutions to achieve their nefarious design of creating chaos," according to a statement issued by the ISPR at the time.
Addressing the officers, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim had said, "Hostile forces and their abettors have been trying hard to create societal division and confusion through fake news and propaganda but all such designs will continue to be defeated with the full support of the nation, InshaAllah."
The forum had concluded that the unfounded and baseless allegations against LEAs and security forces of custodial torture, human rights abuses and stifling of political activities are meant to mislead the people and malign the armed forces in order to achieve trivial vested political interests.
The Parliament, too has put its weight behind the trail of the civilians suspected of arson and vandalism.

The petition contended that trying civilians under the Army Act is a violation of Articles 4, 9, 10A and 175 of the Constitution, praying that the decision by the government and Corps Commanders should be set aside.
It went on to sought a written prohibition against the formulation of the courts and the referral of cases to them in connection with the May 9 unrest.
Nearly a week ago, the military top brass vowed to bring those responsible for the May 9 riots, to justice.
