Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said he fears more attempts at his life.
Khan made the comments in an interview with a French state-owned news network. He said the man nabbed in connection with the Wazirabad attack on him was a "decoy". He, Khan, reiterated had been deployed by the governing coalition.
The former prime minister said the nation was well-acquainted with the three-decade long record of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. They, he said, had a history of orchestrating extra-judicial killings and were responsible for the 2014 Model Town violence.
He said the unprecedented presser of the DG ISI was "unadvisable". No top sleuth should do such a thing. If, Khan said, he had presented a point-by-point rejoinder to the presser, the institution of the army would have been damaged. This, he said, was not what he aspired.
Queried on whether he feared another assassination attempt, the PTI supremo replied in the affirmative. "Unfortunately, they could try again. The threat remains," he said. Khan said the PTI was most popular nationwide. The only way then, Khan said, the governing coalition could remedy this was by having him eliminated. "There is a threat. Still," he said.
The PTI supremo said while he would take more precautions. Fear of death, he said however, will not prevent him from striving for rule of law and justice.
The long march, Khan said, will be conducted in line with the Constitution. The PTI chief said the economy had tanked courtesy the nation's takeover by a "cabal of crooks". All the PTI wants, he said, was free-and-fair general elections to overcome the crises confronting the nation.
PTI chairman Imran Khan was injured in a Wazirabad firing incident earlier in November. Gunshots were reported in the vicinity of the PTI chairman’s container earlier. It later emerged that he had been injured. The PTI supremo sustained a bullet in the leg, according to initial reports. The PTI chairman was taken to Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore after.
