A member of the Ahmadiyya community was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen early on Friday in Mirpurkhas, Sindh, Pakistan.
According to a statement from the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, 40-year-old Ameer Hassan was on his way home after prayers when two men on a motorcycle followed him, confirmed his identity, and opened fire, killing him instantly. The attackers then fled the scene.
Hassan is survived by his wife, three daughters, and two sons. His oldest daughter is 14, and his youngest child is 8 months old. He was an active member of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya and had previously faced religious hatred in the area.
Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistan spokesperson Amir Mehmood expressed sorrow over the killing, blaming religious hatred for the attack. He also pointed to a recent incident in Rawalpindi, where an Ahmadi man named Tayyab Ahmed was killed with an axe.
Mehmood criticised a growing campaign of hate against Ahmadis, leaving the community feeling unsafe. He urged authorities to ensure the protection of peaceful Ahmadis and take strong action against religious extremists.
