An FIR was registered against hundreds of unknown persons for molesting a woman at Minar-e-Pakistan and stealing from her and her companions after a video of the incident went viral on social media. Registered at the Lorry Adda police station, the FIR includes sections 354 A (assault or use of criminal force against woman and stripping her of her clothes), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to commit the theft), 147 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Punjab chief minister's focal person for digital media Azhar Mashwani has announced that non-bailable clauses have been added to the FIR, adding that Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident.
The victim who is a popular TokToker, said that she was stripped and her clothes were torn apart, as per the Express Tribune. The incident took place on Independence Day when she was recording a video at Minar-e-Pakistan accompanied by her friends.
She added that the men also stole her gold jewelry, her mobile phone and cash.
Social media users including politicians and journalists have strongly condemned the incident, calling on the authorities to arrest the culprits and bring an end to the culture of sexual harassment.
