The art of homebuilding is not just about construction; it is about creating a space that tells a story, evokes emotion, and provides a sense of belonging. No one understands this better than Zulfiqar Paracha, a visionary developer whose work has redefined luxury living in Pakistan. With a portfolio spanning national monuments and high-end residences, Paracha’s approach to design is deeply rooted in the philosophy of blending functionality with artistic integrity.

For over 42 years, Team Zulfiqar Paracha has been at the forefront of architectural innovation, crafting homes that are as unique as the people who inhabit them. Their signature style—a fusion of Mediterranean and Spanish influences—emphasizes airy, sunlit spaces that radiate warmth and sophistication.

Team Zulfiqar Paracha’s latest endeavor, The Urban Oasis, is an embodiment of their design philosophy. Located in DHA Phase 8, Karachi’s emerging luxury neighborhood, this 1,000-yard property redefines urban living with a focus on nature, wellness, and exclusivity.

From the moment one steps inside, The Urban Oasis invites residents into a world of seamless indoor-outdoor living. A thoughtfully designed terrace overlooks a mesmerizing Van Gogh-inspired pool, while lush green courts bring an element of tranquility to the interiors. Every room is bathed in natural light, thanks to strategically placed skylights and expansive windows.

The property boasts six bedrooms, a spacious basement with an entertainment lounge, a billiard room, and a well-equipped gym. Artistry is woven into every detail—hand-cut glass mosaics, intricate Spanish tiles, and Japanese-inspired murals transform each corner into a work of art. Collaborations with designer Zahra Ibrahim for furniture, Chawkandi Art Gallery for curated artwork and Abbas Carpets for handpicked carpets, further enhance the home’s refined aesthetic.

The Friday Times interviews the core duo behind Team Zulfiqar Paracha, Zulfiqar Paracha and Sara Adnan Paracha – partners and project heads:

The Friday Times (TFT):  You’ve been in the construction industry for over 42 years, working on iconic projects. What inspired your shift to residential design, and what drives your passion for creating homes?

Zulfiqar Paracha (ZP): My journey in construction began with monumental projects like the Pakistan Monument, State Bank of Pakistan, and Civic Centre, but over time, I realized my true passion lay in designing homes. In 1999, I decided to focus solely on creating unique, high-quality homes that blend warmth, functionality, and artistic expression. For me, a house is not just a structure; it’s a sanctuary where families create lifelong memories.

TFT: Your design philosophy leans heavily towards Mediterranean and Spanish influences. What drew you to this architectural style?

ZP: Mediterranean and Spanish architecture are defined by their timeless appeal, warmth, and connection to nature. I’ve always been drawn to spaces that feel open and breathable, where natural light and air flow seamlessly. These styles incorporate rustic elements, intricate woodwork, and handcrafted details that create an inviting atmosphere—qualities I believe are essential in a home.

TFT: ‘We don’t make houses; we make homes’ is a powerful statement. How does this belief shape your projects?

ZP: A house can be beautifully designed, but if it lacks warmth and soul, it remains just a structure. Our goal is to build homes where families can bond, entertain, and find solace. This philosophy influences everything—from our choice of materials to our layouts that emphasize family living, comfort, and practicality. Every home we build is a reflection of the people who will live in it, not just an architectural statement.

TFT: The Urban Oasis is your latest project. What makes it unique?

ZP: The Urban Oasis is designed as a sanctuary, a space where one can seamlessly transition between indoor and outdoor living. With terraces overlooking a Van Gogh-inspired pool, skylights that flood interiors with natural light, and artfully curated elements like hand-painted tiles and mosaic work, every detail is thoughtfully considered. It’s a home for those who appreciate the finer things in life while valuing comfort and serenity.

TFT: Your work has a distinct signature. Have there been moments where you had to challenge conventional trends to stay true to your vision?

ZP: Absolutely. The market often leans towards modern, straight-line designs, but I’ve always been committed to Mediterranean aesthetics. Many clients and realtors can instantly recognize a ‘ZP House’ by its unique Spanish elements. Staying true to this vision while continuously innovating has been both a challenge and a privilege.

TFT: Sara, as a next-generation leader in your family’s legacy, what does The Urban Oasis represent for you?

Sara Adnan Paracha (SAP): The Urban Oasis is more than just a luxury home—it’s a statement about how we should live. It represents a lifestyle that harmonizes art, nature, and comfort. Growing up surrounded by my father’s passion for architecture and real estate development, I’ve seen how a well-designed home can elevate everyday life. This project embodies that philosophy—where beauty meets functionality, and every detail tells a story.

TFT: The home seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor elements. Why was this integration so important?

SAP: We wanted to create a space that breathes, where you’re never confined by four walls. The house is designed so that no matter where you are, you feel connected to the outdoors. Skylights bring in natural light, terraces open up to breathtaking views, and even the basement is bright and airy. It’s a home that nurtures wellness, relaxation, and creativity.

TFT: The Van Gogh-inspired pool and Japanese art mural are standout features. What inspired these artistic choices?

SAP: Art has always been a fundamental part of our vision. We believe that a home should be an extension of one’s personality and aspirations. The Van Gogh pool is a tribute to timeless artistry, bringing a sense of movement and depth to the outdoor space. Similarly, the Japanese mural adds a contemporary yet classic touch, celebrating global influences while maintaining a unique identity.

TFT: Luxury homes today are not just about opulence but about curated experiences. How does The Urban Oasis align with this evolving definition of luxury?

SAP: True luxury is about intentionality. It’s not just about having high-end materials but about how those materials are used to enhance one’s daily life. The Urban Oasis is designed for people who appreciate art, culture, and exclusivity. From hand-cut glass mosaics to carefully curated interiors and furniture by Zahra Ebrahim, every element contributes to a meaningful living experience.

TFT: How do you see your role in shaping the future of the brand?

SAP: My father has set an incredible precedent, and my goal is to carry forward this legacy while infusing it with modern sensibilities. We’re entering an era where luxury must be more than just grandeur—it must be about smart design, sustainability, and emotional connection. I see my role as bridging tradition with innovation, ensuring that our projects continue to be iconic yet deeply personal.

TFT: The Urban Oasis is poised to be a landmark project. What do you hope people take away from it?

SAP: I hope people see it as more than just a home—it’s a lifestyle, a philosophy, and an experience. It represents our belief that homes should be sanctuaries, places that inspire and comfort in equal measure. If The Urban Oasis makes someone rethink the way they define luxury and living, then we’ve achieved something truly special.

Indeed, As Karachi’s skyline evolves, Team Zulfiqar Paracha continues to shape the city’s luxury residential landscape. With The Urban Oasis, they have once again set a new standard for high-end living, crafting a home that is not just a place to reside, but a masterpiece to experience.
