A drone launched by Yemen managed to penetrate Israel's feared 'Iron Dome' air defence system and crash explosively into an apartment block in the capital city of Tel Aviv on Friday.
The attack left one dead and injured several others.
The drone struck an apartment block on Shalom Aleichem Street early Friday morning, damaging windows in most of the houses on the street.
Yemen's Houthi militants claimed responsibility for the drone strike.
Witnesses claimed they saw the plane-like figure of the drone fly towards them, but it sounded quite like a jet fighter in the Israeli Air Force as it crashed on them.
The attack offers new insights into Yemeni capabilities with unmanned combat aerial vehicles.
The Yemen drone attack follows a drone swarm attack by Iran earlier this year. Iran had launched over 100 drones towards Israel in response to its attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria.
While Israel attempted to intercept the Iranian attack, several Iranian drones managed to get through and hit targets by overloading Israeli defences.
Yemen has gone on the front foot against Israel by using its drones to impose a blockade on ships heading to Israel. While this invited pressure and attacks from the US, the Houthis in Yemen persisted.
The blockade forced the Israeli ports and shipping authorities to consider declaring bankruptcy based on the reduction in trade volume and rising cost of trade.
