After Six Years: Islamabad United Secure Third PSL Title

Islamabad United beat Multan Sultans in the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final on Monday evening at the National Stadium in Karachi.

In a sensational match, Multan Sultans batted first and scored 159 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

Islamabad United, however, overcame the total on the last ball of the match with just two wickets to spare.

Monday's victory means Islamabad United have now lifted the PSL trophy for the third time, the most by any PSL team.

Islamabad United last won the trophy in 2018. Prior to that, it raised the trophy in PSL's inaugural season in 2016.

They also received the Rs140 million winner's cheque, while the Multan Sultans received the Rs56 million runners-up cheque.

This was the fourth consecutive final that the Multan Sultans featured in, but apart from the final in 2021, which they won, they lost all three subsequent finals to Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United, respectively.

Islamabad United's captain Shadab Khan was handed the player of the tournament trophy, while Imad Wasim took home the Player of the Match trophy.

Multan Sultan's Usama Mir took 24 wickets to become the top wicket-taker of PSL 9, while Peshawar Zalmi's Saim Ayub picked up the trophy for the Super All-Rounder Of the Tournament. Irfan Khan of Karachi Kings got the trophy for the best fielder. Peshawar Zalmi's captain, Babar Azam, took home the trophy for the best batsman. Islamabad United's Azam Khan was recognised as the wicketkeeper of the tournament.

Peshawar Zalmi also received the trophy for the Spirit of Cricket award. Asif Ayub was handed the trophy for being the umpire of the tournament.
