Gaza Crisis: ‘OIC-Arab League Summit Declaration Failed To Put Collective Pressure On Israel’

While highlighting dire conditions in Gaza, former Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi has said that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)-Arab League Summit Declaration failed to put collective pressure on Israel.

While speaking to New Wave Global, Qazi said that the United States is knowingly supporting Israel in this crime of all crimes, and the crime is genocide. The prime example of genocide in the contemporary era can be seen in Palestine and Kashmir.

He highlighted dire conditions in Gaza, likening it to a modern-day death camp amid parallels to the Holocaust.

The former ambassador said that the United Nations Security Council's failure to rein in Israeli aggression, with the unwavering United States’ support, is evident. Despite US-backed moves seemingly targeting Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas show reluctance to escalate, while the OIC Arab League Summit lacks collective pressure on Israel, missing economic sanctions and diplomatic initiatives, he added.

He said that on the one hand, the United States is showing concern for the human rights situation in Palestine, but on the other hand, the US is militarily supporting Israel for genocide in Gaza. The United Nations is the international community, but it is totally paralyzed, he added.

While responding to a question regarding the role of Muslim countries and the OIC Arab League Summit recently held to halt human rights violations in Gaza, Qazi quoted the remarks of British commentator George Galloway, who sarcastically described the Muslims get-to-gather as ‘belly dancing’ because they had absolutely no intention of agreeing on anything effective.

He said that Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar did recommend that Israel be brought before the International Criminal Court (ICC) and charged with crimes against humanity, but Pakistan’s close friend countries are not in favor of bringing Israel to accountability before the ICC.
