Trans Community Fully Motivated To Participate In Upcoming General Elections

In a ground-breaking action, the transgender community announced its intent to fully participate in the next general elections scheduled to be held on February 8, 2024.

The announcement was made at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club when significant community members such as Bindia Rana, Dr Meereb Awan, and Shehzadi Rai presented their ideas.

As part of their struggle for fundamental rights, transgender community leaders have arranged the Moorat March, which will take place on November 19 at Frere Hall in Karachi.

The march intends to bring attention to critical concerns such as the right to inheritance and the disturbing rates of violence against trans people, which are often justified in the name of honor.

During the press conference, Shehzadi Rai discussed the widespread violence experienced by transgender people and emphasized the critical need to address the shortage of work opportunities.

The community leaders requested that the government eliminate discriminatory practices and commit to inclusion and equal rights.

Transgender community groups expressed dissatisfaction with the Sindh government for failing to fulfill promised job quotas for trans people.

Bindia Rana especially mentioned the National Database and Registration Authority's (NADRA) decision to stop producing X identification cards, which raised worries regarding the community's paperwork and recognition.

Meanwhile, Dr Meereb shared information on the Moorat March and encouraged everyone to participate. The march is set for November 19 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Frere Hall in Karachi.

The organizers believe that the event will be used to raise awareness and support for the transgender community's fight for equal rights.
