SC Adjourns Election Hearing To April 27 Amid Talks Stalemate
The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the Punjab election case after being told that a dialogue between the ruling coalition and the PTI will take place after Eid.

The directives were given by a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar.

When the top judge was informed about the schedule for talks, he asked the parties to initiate talks today but the hearing couldn't resume afterwards.

After a meeting with CJ Bandial in his chambers, Farooq Naek, the counsel for PPP, and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan told media persons that the 'dialogue has been initiated and it has been decided to give each other some time'.

Fazl rejects talks

Meanwhile, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman — chairman of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) — strongly rejected the idea of talks with the Imran Khan-led party.

According to the veteran politician, a man who should not have been a part of national politics in the first place was now being brought to the limelight by the SC.

“The man who dissolved the assemblies and brought Pakistan to this point today...you want us to go and talk to him? No, we are not ready to accept this decision. This is an entirely non-political procedure for us,” he said while addressing a short presser.

'No backtracking'

A day earlier, CJ Bandial stated that the Supreme Court had finally rendered a decision about the Punjab elections and that it was time to “move on,” as he asked the political parties to come up with a polling date.

His remarks came a day after top intelligence personnel briefed SC on the security situation. The director general of military operations briefed the bench at the briefing, who was accompanied by the director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the defence secretary.
