Unidentified vandals have defaced and smashed the tombstones of some Ahmadi elders in Jhelum.

Locals said that the vandals had sprayed the epitaphs on at least two graves with black paint and ink, while some tombstones were also smashed.

The graves belonged to three elders of the local Ahmadiyya community and are highly respected.

The defaced graves were noticed by locals recently, and they believe that the activity was conducted in the second week of July.

This is not the first such incident where Ahmadi graves have been vandalized, nor of Ahmadis being targeted in Jhelum in recent weeks.

Earlier in July, police demolished the minarets atop an Ahmadi worship place in the Kalan Gujar area of the district after the local head of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chapter threatened the police they would take voluntary action unless the minarets were demolished before Muharram.

On July 5, unidentified individuals vandalized the graves of three Ahmadis buried in the joint cemetery at Qaziyan Chowk in Kotli, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK).
