At least six people including PTI's tehsil nazim Atif Munsif were killed when their vehicle was fired upon in Havelian, Abbottabad, Dawn reported quoting District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Tufail, on Monday.
According to the DPO, a rival group opened fire at the vehicle, which caused the fuel tank to explode, and added that there was no rocket involved in the attack as claimed by some reports in the media.
The officer added that the car immediately caught fire, killing Munsif and others, and injuring two others.
The windows of the vehicle had to be broken to take the bodies out and shift the injured to the hospital.
Tufail maintained that a police team reached the site and initiated an operation for the miscreants, and said that an FIR of the incident has not yet been unregistered.
Munsif was elected as tehsil nazim of the area as an independent candidate during the 2022 municipal elections
The reports of firing on the car earlier today shocked the party leaders and workers and the public alike.
