More than 100 Gaza evacuees are expected to arrive in Turkey on Monday, including dozens of Palestinians who will receive medical care, according to Turkey's health minister and a foreign ministry source.
Sixty-one patients, accompanied by 49 families, landed in Egypt from Gaza on Sunday evening and were due to travel to Ankara on Monday morning after spending the night in Al Arish hospital, according to Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
He stated last week that Ankara aimed to transport as many of the almost 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza as possible to Turkey. The first 27 patients arrived in Ankara on Thursday.
Separately, a group of 87 Turks, Turkish Cypriots, and their families landed in Egypt from Gaza on Sunday and were scheduled to fly to Istanbul on Monday evening, according to a foreign ministry source.
According to media reports, 44 Turks who went from Gaza to Egypt over the weekend landed in Istanbul on Sunday.
According to the foreign ministry source, Turkey hoped to move roughly 100 additional individuals out of Gaza on Monday if situations on the ground permitted.
Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Yildiz announced a month ago that 700 people, including Turkish, Palestinian, and northern Cypriot residents, had applied to Turkey for evacuation from Gaza. Approximately 300 of them were Turkish citizens.
