PM Says 'Wrong Candidates Selection' Led To PTI's Defeat In KP LG Polls
Accepting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s defeat on multiple seats in the first phase of local government polls held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday admitted that his party made mistakes, identifying 'wrong candidate selection' as the reason for its poor performance.

The PM added that he would see to it that these mistakes are not repeated. He vowed to 'personally oversee' the PTI's strategy for the second phase of the polls which will take place next month.

"PTI made mistakes in [the] first phase of KP LG elections and paid the price," he tweeted, adding that wrong candidate selection was a major reason for the defeat.

"From now on I will personally be overseeing PTI's LG election strategy in [the] second phase of KP LG elections & LG elections across Pakistan."

Earlier, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry called on the ruling party's leadership and workers to forget their differences and unite under PM Imran's leadership.

"If the PTI is weakened at this time then the country will fall to the wolves," the minister wrote in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League - N (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif said that the PTI's poor performance was 'an expression of people's anger over the back-breaking inflation, crushing price hike and the meltdown of governance'. He added that the people of KP have rejected the PTI.
