Two children were crushed to death under rubble when the wall of a derelict primary school collapsed at the village of Chor, in Umerkot district of Sindh province. People from the village gathered to recover the bodies of the children from under the rubble.
The deceased children include 13-year-old Moheb son of Ali Nohri and 12-year-old Rajesh son of Gomun Bheel.
The school was known to be closed for a long time, standing in a dilapidated condition. Village children would play around the building, which ended with the tragic incident of this week.
Locals say that the condition of the derelict school building reflects on the overall level of educational access and infrastructure in the province. They note that the provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah also belongs to Umerkot.
