Ahmadiyya Place Of Worship In Sialkot Demolished Amid Ongoing Persecution

The persecution of the Ahmadiyya community continues as the government administration demolished an historic place of worship in Daska Kalan, District Sialkot, on the night of January 16.

According to press release issued by Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, the worship place, which was constructed before the partition of sub-continent in 1947 and was originally built by Sir Zafarullah Khan, was reduced to rubble in what appears to have been a coordinated effort.

An operation against illegal encroachment was underway, and notices from the Municipal Committee had been issued. In compliance with the notice served two days prior to the demolition, the Ahmadiyya community, in consultation with the authorities, identified the impugned area.

“On the fateful night, the authorities carried out this heinous act and deprived Ahmadis of their fundamental right to practice their faith. Based on the facts, it appears to have been an orchestrated attack on this worship place. Last year, 22 worship places were desecrated,” the statement read.

“These extrajudicial actions by the authorities are tarnishing the reputation of our beloved country. By persecuting an already marginalized community, the authorities are sending a message that they care little about the vulnerable communities in the country and that no one is safe.”

“The authorities should refrain from these extrajudicial actions, despite the decisions of superior courts, and provide protection to all vulnerable communities in this country, including the Ahmadiyya community. It is crucial that the state holds these culprits accountable,” it added.
