In light of the recent drop in diesel prices, the Pakistan Railways Department has announced considerable reductions in train fares across multiple classes. The formal notification of the fare decrease has been issued and is effective immediately.
The fee cut applies to rail travel of up to 200 kilometers for all classes of trains, benefiting travelers traveling shorter distances. Significant decreases are noticed in the economy and AC classes.
According to railway authorities, economy class rates on some routes have been slashed by up to 54%. For example, the minimum ticket for economy class on the Lahore to Rawalpindi route has been reduced from Rs 250 to Rs 100. Likewise, the economy class cost for the Khyber Mail, covering distances ranging from 1 to 130 kilometers, has been slashed from Rs 250 to Rs 100.
Passengers traveling in AC class will also benefit from significant reductions, with tickets reduced by 40% across many routes.
Both frequent travelers and everyday commuters will find respite in this initiative, since rail travel will now be more affordable. The Railways Department highlights that the goal of this fare reduction is to increase the affordability of train travel by sharing the advantages of lower fuel costs with the general population.
The Lahore railway administration has verified that the revised fare went into effect on Tuesday.
