A man was killed and another injured in an early morning explosion at a factory in Lahore.
According to details, a boiler exploded in a beverage factory on Multan Road in Lahore, engulfing the factory in flames. Yaseen, a 33-year-old passerby, was killed. Factory manager Shabbir was also reportedly injured.
Rescue 1122 officials said Shabbir sustained serious burn injuries due to the fire. Goods worth millions of rupees were burnt to ashes in the factory.
Rescue teams managed to contain the blaze after several hours. The boiler explosion also severely damaged houses in the neighborhood.
Witnesses said first, the boiler exploded in the factory and this was followed by several small explosions.
Residents in the neighborhood said there should be no factories in the residential area.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar took notice of factory fire on Multan Road and sought a report from Lahore commissioner and the labour secretary. He also ordered an investigation of the incident.
“Action should be taken by identifying the causes of fire and those responsible for negligence,” a statement issued by the chief minister said.
Chief Minister Usman Bazdar also expressed regret over the death of the laborer and extended his sympathy and condolences to the family of the deceased.
