With Controversial New Chairman, Lahore Arts Council Could Become Lahore 'Farce' Council
In a questionable move, the caretaker Punjab government has appointed self-proclaimed 'motivational' speaker Qasim Ali Shah as chairman of the board of governors of the prestigious Lahore Arts Council.

Qasim Ali Shah is an author of 12 books on diverse, often unrelated topics, and has been running his own 'science academy' for high school and intermediate students in Lahore since the part 20 years. He is known for his unorthodox, questionable approaches in the field of 'modern learning techniques'.

Shah has been associated with the Punjab Judicial Academy. Since 2017, his eponymous foundation has been offering 'trainings' to young people in Lahore.

As a broadcaster, Shah hosted a radio programme called Manzil Ka Musafir. He is often invited to give talks and seminars at various institutions.

His appointment by Punjab's caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi has triggered a diversity of reactions on social media. Some say Shah was 'rewarded' with the position for his criticism of the PTI chairman, while others point to him having no credentials or experience for the position he's been appointed to.

Many of those associated with the arts have expressed their dismay and disappointment.
