Pakistani Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) star Ahmed Mujtaba made a winning return to martial arts organization ONE Championship, beating Brazilian fighter Abraao Amorim in the opening round at the event ONE 163.
The 29-year-old nicknamed 'Wolverine' faced the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion, who has an impressive arsenal of grappling and striking moves, coupled with his usual courage and aggression. This was the lightweight martial artist’s first fight since February 2021 when he knocked out India’s Rahul Raju in 56 seconds.
In a fight that kept the crowd on their feet throughout, he applied a triangle chock, trapping Amorim’s leg to force a submission at the 4:32 mark of the opening round, pushing his record to 10-2.
Born in Quetta, Mujtaba is one of the brightest MMA stars to emerge from Pakistan, since making his debut in 2013 at PAK Fight Club, defeating Nadeem Sharif. Eight months later, he defeated Ahmed Abbas.
He quickly made an impression on the Pakistani MMA scene.
By 2016, the rising star had mastered both MMA and grappling, winning gold, silver, and two bronze medals in the Pakistan Grappling Championship, before capturing the UGB MMA featherweight title within less than two minutes of the opening round.
In the same year, Mujtaba signed for ONE Championship, making a winning debut against Singaporean fighter Benedict Ang via anonymous decision.
Earlier this year, he brushed shoulders with some of MMA’s finest talents and coaches at the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA). He trained with legend Khabib Nurmagomedov as well Islam Makhachev, and Coach Javier Mendez.
Today, Mujtaba is considered an inspiration to upcoming talents in Pakistan, and he has grown into the role of supporting youths on their journey to becoming professional martial artists.
