Is Power Politics Bringing A Moral Crisis In Political Leadership?
In other words, power politics requires politicians of making rhetorical comments based on morality, religious affiliations and other social tendencies to woo public to rally around a popular political leader. In so doing, political leaders, who pretend like a messiah, often face difficulties to prove their innocence when media hunts them for contradictions not only in their actions but also in their words.

The case of Imran Khan, as a political messiah, is facing the same problem. He is facing a public scrutiny as audio leaks are exposing his private life to larger national and international media. Failing to prove his innocence,  he is throwing accusations on the former Chief of Army, Qamar Javed Bajwa. He is taking U-turns on everything he said previously, and the latest U-Turn on conspiracy narrative is mind boggling.

Just because Khan is a popular leader, the public is very sensitive about Khan and his character. They think that he has changed himself as he is no longer a playboy as he had been in the past when he was playing cricket. Khan has also aggravated the situation as he plays to the tunes of public by showing himself as a religious man, incorruptible and pious. But his audio-leaks are pointing in the apposite direction.

To cater to anti-women sentiments popular in the masses of Pakistan, Khan has remarked that men are not robots for they could not resist temptations when women are dressed in poorly manners. Remarks like these have made Khan’s life even more vulnerable as he can be heard in a audio leak where he is using his position of power to lure woman.

Though audio leaks are personal matter of Khan, it is however important to mention that Khan’s actions are contrary to what the state of Medina is known for. He aims to build a state like Medina where justice would be easily available to all, not just to the powerful lot of Pakistan. But given Pakistanis’ fascination regarding the state of Medina, such rhetorical comments are good to hear but  can be a hard thing to establish. Failing to keep himself to the standards that the state of Media stands for, Khan is making contradictory statements every now and then. To hide his mistakes, he throws accusations on everyone, giving himself a clean chit.

Lying is another political trait of Khan because it is the most easiest to lure public. For this reason only, Khan has lied to the public that he was removed from office via a conspiracy. He told that it was America that had played its role in dislodging his government. To weave this story further, he had linked the current political lot of Pakistan with this story as he calls the coalition government of Shehbaz Sharif as imported one.

Despite he is being exposed every other day via leaks, stories of financial mishandling and corrupt practices in which his family is personally involved, he is not showing a humble gesture. Rather, he is getting rude, more belligerent and aggressive against the establishment as he has found his latest penchant to attack the status quo and the establishment for his personal shortcomings.

Rather than accepting Khan’s family is involved in financial mismanagement, he is trying to tell the public that he has sold his own watches. In trying to paint himself a good Muslim, Khan is making political blunders such as he pretends that it is not the corruption, mismanaged governance and other administrative errors for which he had been removed from office. Rather, for his brave steps that he had taken on the foreign policy front where he tried to make relations with Russia.

Moreover, blinded by power politics, Khan is on the way to dissolve the assemblies of Punjab and KPK respectively. Having failed to convince the power centers of country via his long march, Khan is hurting himself, taking a moral ground, that he cannot accept this imported government that is filled with killers, abusers and corrupt people. Therefore, he is leaving the political field open.

Last but not the least, Khan should stop using religion to paint a good picture of himself as he is badly exposed. The way forward for Khan should be to accept his mistakes and play in the political field. Dissolving assemblies, abusing others and threatening the establishment would not work. What would work is that he should come back to parliament and play his due role in apposition instead of taking a moral ground every other time and then taking u-turn when it backfires.
