Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Jamshed Cheema and his wife Musarrat Cheem have chosen to break ties with the party, giving Imran Khan more blows.
Their lawyer, who validated the news by saying that he had individual conversations with him in jail, confirmed the development. As soon as they are released from prison, he is convinced that they will leave the PTI.
Following the May 9 demonstrations that occurred after the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan in a corruption case involving the Al-Qadir Trust, the husband, and wife have been held for 12 days.
A number of PTI leaders, including Malik Aslam Amin and Hisham Inamullah, had already left the party due to vandalism on May 9, when irate PTI protestors assaulted military and public facilities across many cities.
A day earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain reached out to his brother Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain in an effort to bring the nation together via politics after Wajahat announced his resignation from the PTI.
