A case was registered by the police against a group of people, including some lawyers, for assaulting a woman named Laila Parveen within the premises of a court in Karachi.
The incident took place on Monday when Parveen and her brother were assaulted for lodging a complaint against her ex-husband who gave them a cheque that bounced.
The police included charges of assault, rioting, and threatening with deadly weapons in First Information Report (FIR). Those named in the complaint include Mir Mukhtar, Junaid, Akbar, Nasrullah, Muhammad Ali, Saeed Shehzad among others.
Parveen alleged that the accused asked her to withdraw the case against her ex-husband and upon her refusal, they flashed guns, threatened to kill her, and later assaulted her.
She also said that her jewelry had gone missing during the incident.
In a video posted on social media, Parveen said, “her ex-husband had been released on bail under pressure”. She appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of her case and ensure justice.
She said, “my brother and I were tortured, beaten, and harassed by my husband's associates and my honour was violated”.
She added that her husband had taken a loan from his brother and had returned a cheque that bounced prompting them to register a complaint with the police.
