Pakistan Muslim League - N (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz has distanced herself from her party's decision to support extension in service of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa in 2019.
Speaking to media persons, Maryam Nawaz stated that she did not have a say in her party's decision to support extension in General Bajwa's term as the COAS. She issued this statement in response to a reporter's question about the reports about government considering extending National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal's term in office.
The reporter said that an extension was granted earlier (to COAS Bajwa) and now the NAB chairman's term is also being extended. Maryam responded that she did not have anything to do with the earlier extension. The reporter then said that her party had supported it. To this, Maryam Nawaz said that she was not part of the PML-N that supported the extension [in General Bajwa's term].
Maryam Nawaz appeared before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in Avenfield case earlier today, and spoke to media persons on the occasion.
