Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed was on Friday reported to have evaded an arrest, as the PTI's 'jail bharo' movement enters day three.
The veteran politician moved close to the workers gathered to 'surrender' to police, before walking past the prison van standing nearby, according to a report.
Among other leaders, Fayyaz-ul-Hasan Chohan, Sadaqat Abbasi, and Ijaz Jazi volunteered for the arrests, in addition to more than 80 workers.
A day earlier, Lahore police lodged an FIR under terrorism charges against the party's leaders and workers for allegedly attacking a police vehicle, threatening police personnel, and violating Article 144 imposed in the city.
Police named PTI leaders Mian Abad Farooq, Zubair Niazi, and 80 unidentified party workers in the FIR.
According to the report, the leaders attacked a police van and spread chaos while during their voluntary surrender as part of the ongoing campaign.
On Wednesday, senior leaders including Asad Umar, Azam Swati, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and Omer Sarfraz Cheema voluntarily surrendered themselves to police.
Speaking from inside a police van, Shah Mahmood said, “Police have arrested me. They have told me that I am under arrest, and they asked me to sit in the prisoners’ van. I don’t know where the police is taking me.”
As per the schedule, the activists will give arrests in Multan on February 25, in Gujranwala on February 26, in Sargodha on February 27, in Sahiwal on February 28 and in Faisalabad on February 29. After this, a new schedule will be given for the movement.
Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency has constituted special teams to take former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi into custody.
The teams will also have the assistance of women police personnel to materialise the arrest of the former First Lady, while a contingency plan is also afoot in case of resistance during the action.
The reports further state that the FIA has also gathered information about the whereabouts of the duo, that may be moved to Rawalpindi after being taken into custody.
