Member of National Assembly (MNA) Mohsin Dawar has urged National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to issue the production order of incarcerated lawmaker Ali Wazir so that the latter could represent his constituency during the upcoming session of the House, scheduled for Wednesday.
In a tweet, Mohsin said that he has submitted an application to the NA speaker for the production order of Ali.
“[I] have submitted an application to the speaker [of] National Assembly for the production order of Ali Wazir for the upcoming session of the NA ….. Ali needs to be allowed to represent his constituency,” he said.
Ali was elected from the NA-50 constituency in South Waziristan’s tribal district as an independent candidate.
He has been imprisoned in Karachi’s central prison since December 31, 2020 after he was arrested for alleged hate speech against state institutions.
According to the prosecution, Ali and some other accused had held a procession in a ground behind the Al-Asif Square on January 20, 2019, where they delivered speeches, allegedly inciting the public against state institutions.
Earlier this month, an anti-terrorism court had granted bail to Ali in the case. However, he is also facing trial in another identical case lodged against him at the Boat Basin police station.
