Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has claimed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government had compromised Pakistan Television (PTV)’s economic interest by entering into an illegal broadcasting rights agreement with the ARY group during its tenure.
The information minister, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad today, said that an expression of interest (EOI) for acquisition and dissemination rights was changed again and again to favuor the ARY group during the tenure of the former government.
Marriyum said that the agreement with the ARY group not only compromised the legal procedures for the rights’ bid but also sacrificed PTV's economic interest.
She said that the state channel will get its due rights and justice will be done during her tenure, adding that the case of illegal broadcasting rights agreement has been sent to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for initiating an inquiry against the involved persons.
Criticising the former government, the information minister further said that the PTI-led government, which claims to have modernised the broadcasting world, not only put the state institutions into economic crisis, but they also destroyed the existing stature of PTV and other state institutions.
