Parliamentary leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Sardar Mohammad Yusuf has accused Prime Minister Imran Khan of trying to influence the local government elections in KP by holding multiple rallies in the province.
“Federal Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati and other [Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf] PTI lawmakers have been utilising the government’s machinery and resources to sway voters in the favour of their party’s election candidate,” the provincial assembly leader said in Ganglan on Thursday.
Citing the PTI's previous losses in the province, the PML-N leader said, “Upset by record inflation, unemployment and recession in the country, the people won’t vote for the ruling party."
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), too, has taken note of the prime minister's multiple rallies in the province, despite two show-causes issued to the PM. The ECP, concerned over Prime Minister Imran Khan repeated violations of its code of conduct, served another notice on him earlier this week after he failed to respond to the allegations. The ECP has claimed that the prime minister’s multiple political rallies held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the lead up to the province’s second phase of local body constituted a code of conduct violation.
Due to the continued breach of conduct by the prime minister and his team, the ECP had reportedly considered postponing the second phase of elections in the province.
The prime minister held a rally in Mansehra on Friday.
