Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said in a video address yesterday (Friday) that he will stay in Zaman Park, and "whoever wants to kill me can come and kill me here".
Addressing through video link, Imran Khan said that he was being advised to go to Azad Kashmir or Gilgit-Baltistan "because your government is there and you also need protection". Rejecting such proposals, Khan said, "I have decided that I will remain here, in Zaman Park, and whoever wants to kill me can come and kill me here".
Imran Khan said that he was advised many times to leave Lahore, but he refused. Khan said that more than 1,000 PTI workers were been arrested to stop the Minar-e-Pakistan rally, but added that "the nation is not going to stop now".
He said that the law does not give the powerful the right to do what they want. He reiterated his mantra that the rule of law was the first established in the state of Medina. He went on to surmise that the problem of Pakistan is that "the powerful consider themselves above the law".
Imran Khan said that despite the order of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) gave the 'excuse' of lack of funds, and now the election has been moved to October 8. "Will all the country's problems be solved by October 8?" Khan asked.
The PTI chairman continued to wonder aloud: who will guarantee today that the election will be held on October 8 or not? Who will make this decision? Khan said that if we allow the constitution to be violated, the matter will not stop but will go much further. Khan said that earlier in history, military dictator General Zia said he would hold elections in 90 days, but ended up ruling the country for 11 years.
He said that justice is the basic need of a nation and only by establishing rule of law does a nation become truly free. Imran Khan further said that the authorities tried to "humiliate" Hassan Niazi by arresting him. Khan said he found it reprehensible - without realising that his own definition of the problem of Pakistan was that "the powerful consider themselves above the law".
Imran Khan then appealed to the people of Lahore to take part in his upcoming rally. He said that when the denizens of Lahore come out, then the decision will be made.
Chairman PTI Imran Khan also said that if a JIT to investigate his allegations is to be formed, it should be made under the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJ) because "we have no faith in anyone else". Khan also said how could he trust a JIT formed over "the very people who want to kill" him.
