Government Capitulates To TLP Once Again, Frees 350 Workers, Promises To Release Saad Rizvi

As many as 350 activists of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) were released by the federal government on Sunday. The government also announced the cases against others would be withdrawn by Wednesday (Oct 27).

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told a press conference that the government would also review the names of TLP leaders on the Fourth Schedule and draw up a plan to release their jailed chief Saad Rizvi.

The interior minister made the announcement after negotiating with a TLP team, including its detained chief, in Islamabad.

Later Sheikh Rasheed tweeted: “We have released 350 TLP workers up to now and we are still waiting to open both sides of road of Muridke as per the decision with the TLP.”

Another round of talks with the TLP will be held at the Ministry of Interior in Islamabad today (Monday), Rashid said, adding that protesters had agreed not to march towards the capital and stay at Muridke till Wednesday.

However, a TLP Shura member told newsmen that the interior minister wanted to wait till the return of Prime Minister Imran Khan from Saudi Arabia.

TLP Shura says they had agreed to the government’s proposal to wait at Muridke for two days because the government had assured them that it would release all those arrested, including the TLP chief and other Shura members.
