PTI Supporter Sanam Javed, Others Rearrested Upon Release From Kot Lakhpat Jail

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporter Sanam Javed and three other women, whose release had been ordered late last week, were rearrested upon exiting Kot Lakhpat Jail on Monday evening.

Dramatic scenes were witnessed outside Kot Lakhpat jail on Monday evening. Just as the four women exited the jail premises, they were bundled into a waiting police prison van by female police officers and whisked away.

Javed and the other women were under trial in the Jinnah House attack. But late last week, a court had approved their bail in the case.

Police said the women were arrested in another case associated with the Jinnah House attack.

Those rearrested include Javed, Afshan Tariq, Asma Shuja and Shah Noor.

They have been incarcerated for over four months now.

Earlier on Monday, television news anchor, journalist and YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan was released and allowed to go home after having spent nearly five months in custody on one charge or the other.

Those who met him said that Imran had lost a lot of weight, while he appeared to have temporarily lost his ability to speak and appeared to have been psychologically impacted.

Meanwhile, former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan, who was sentenced and arrested in early August, remains incarcerated in Attock Jail.

PTI President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, who had been imprisoned in Lahore, was briefly shifted to Adiala Jail before being moved back to Lahore, where he remains in the custody of the anti-corruption department.
