Fifth Asma Jahangir Conference Commences Tomorrow

The conference will continue for two days and is titled "People's Mandate, Protection of Civil Rights in South Asia."

Fifth Asma Jahangir Conference Commences Tomorrow

The Fifth Asma Jahangir Conference will take place at a local hotel in Lahore on April 27 and 28, hosted by the Asma Jahangir Legal Aid Cell. 

The Asma Jahangir Conference, titled "People's Mandate, Protection of Civil Rights in South Asia," will take place over the course of two days. The Pakistan Bar Council and the Supreme Court Bar Association are collaborating on the event.

Azam Nazir Tarar, the federal minister of law and justice, justices from the Supreme Court and the High Courts, as well as ambassadors from Norway, Great Britain, and Europe, will all take part in the inauguration ceremony. 

Chairman of the Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Abdul Malik Baloch, Akhtar Mengal, Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, Farooq Naik, Nafisa Shah, Shehla Raza, Khurram Dastgir, Baba Jan, Taj Haider, Farhatullah Babar, Dr. Ayesha Ghos Pasha, Ayesha Siddiqa Raza Farooq, Raheela Durrani, Soraya Bibi, and Samar Bilour are among the politicians who will also be attending the conference.

Together with these, there will be discussions on legal matters pertaining to South Asia and the Middle East by Justice (Retd.) Nasira Iqbal, former President of the Sindh High Court Association Salahuddin Ahmed, Justice Dadhanya, former judge of the Supreme Court of India, Justice Markande Katjo, former judge of the High Court of Denmark, Frederik Wage, former judge Attorney General Irfan Qadir, and other judges. 

The rights of women and the transgender community, as well as provincial concerns and climate change, will all be covered during the conference.

The Asma Jahangir Conference acknowledges that South Asia, and especially Pakistan, is determining its own political and democratic future. In light of this difficult situation, the conference endeavors to proceed with the same bravery and tenacity that the late Asma Jahangir demonstrated throughout her career.
