Fall is around the corner and I am so excited for this most beautiful season of autumn colors, sharper looks and nouveau fashion. For some reason, people just look better in the fall (right?), and the sea of black coats that floods the streets of places like New York and London is perhaps the most stunning unplanned fashion event of the year. However, fall in Lahore is even more special. The mild season lets us take the best of summer to jazz up our wardrobes and within this strange summer/winter space, fashion has no bounds. Here are some of the most fabulous trends that you should watch out for this fall:

Ciao Bella: Let the Kendall (Jenner) vibes take you over and embrace your inner flirt with this seductive yet sophisticated look. Whether you go OTT (over-the-top) with a pair of ruffled flare pants (like those made by Balmain) or keep it casual with bell-bottom jeans, this trend will most defo carry you through to the fall in immaculate style. The Gharara Pants are a super cool interpretation of this trend.

Few can pull off a look involving blue hair and a sheer top like Lady Gaga

Remember, if Jaden Smith can adorn his dreadlocks with gold Cartier rings, there is no end to what you can do

Sheer Glamour: Mesh with your surroundings by layering your ensemble with a sheer top or jacket that will give you the ultimate glam girl look. Go Victorian with a lace and tulle top for a more fall appropriate get-up (see Dolce and Gabbana) or go (Lady) GaGa with sheer t-shirts and sleeves that will amp up your outfits instantly.

Mums and Roses: Florals have been all the rage this summer and they aren’t sitting pretty. Grunge up your style by pairing floral prints with leather for a rock ‘n’ roll vibe that will surely fan the flames of fashion supremacy. Gucci has some insane leather jackets, but you can always faux up your look with a more affordable Topshop version.

Dare to Pop? Let your inner child roar by expressing yourself with some fun embroidered pop art to camp up your outfits. Whether you want to a rock a cheeseburger on your left lapel or sport an Emoji on your right sleeve, this trend will give you the bold edge you need to complement your personality.

It was a particularly beautiful day in Lahore. The monsoon season had finally arrived, bringing respite to an otherwise sluggish city that had spent most of the year submerged in unbearable heat. On this day, children of The One Percent gathered at popular restaurants with outdoor seating, hoping to get a table before the rain washed the grey clouds away.

I was lunching at The Pantry with a few of my friends when Maya, a local fashion editor, walked up to me (see ‘Rise of the Working Woman’ by Zara C. Churri, available on TFT’s website). This year, Maya was working behind-the-scenes at Bridal Fashion Week.

“Zara!” she yelped, making her way to my table. “I am so happy I found you here. By the way, I absolutely love your top,” she continued, making sure she sounded as fake as possible. I am sure she actually did like my top, because it was nice, but it was Maya’s habit to complement me in a way so as to portray the opposite (and vice versa). “I hope I’m not interrupting but as you know, I’m working Bridal Fashion Week next month. Anyway, here is a list of specifications for the models you hire. Just make sure they meet 75 percent of the criteria,” she said, handing me the list and then simply walking away.

I stared down at the list. It contained a range of measurements for every item, such as weight, height, waist, arm length, and length of torso, to name a few. Oddly enough, it also provided a range of eye colors, skin tones, and voice qualities that would be preferred. Ugh! It was going to be impossible to find models for Bridal Fashion Week!

The Velveteen Habit: Fancy yourself a working woman? Establish your authority and power-play your accomplishments with a lux and indulgent velvet ensemble that will showcase your inner talent (and your bank account). Oh, and don’t forget to accessorise with a pair of fabulous velvet booties to bring out the rich velvet feels of the season!

Casual Cartier: Got all the money in the world to make the ultimate bold fashion statement? Get a little reckless with your Cartier bling by rocking it casually with your outfits. Remember, if Jaden Smith can adorn his dreadlocks with gold Cartier rings, there is no end to what you can do.

Designer DNA: This season is all about the DNA and what you can accomplish with the success of your family fame. Flaunt your roots and follow in the footsteps of Bella Hadid (Gigi Hadid’s gorgeous sister), Kaia Gerber (Cindy Crawford’s stunning daughter) and Iris Law (Jude Law’s model child) for a trend that appears to be custom-made for the Pakistani consciousness.

That morning, Maya began to compile a list of model requirements for the upcoming fashion week. This was her first time working to set up the function, and she was determined to make it the best fashion week Lahore had ever seen. She was aware of the many measurements and size requirements that were needed, but she wanted to go above and beyond to make sure the runway was perfect. She thought about it for a minute and then typed ‘scientifically proven qualities that make women more attractive’ in the Google search box. It was going to be a fabulous event indeed.
