A state of emergency has been declared in Swat by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government after the Provincial Disaster Management Authority's (PDMA) warning of 'very high' flooding in the Swat River.
As per an order issued earlier on Friday by KP’s Provincial Emergency Operations Centre, water levels in the Swat River and its adjoining nullahs and tributaries had reached very high flood levels — 227,899 cusecs — which 'may result in a dangerous situation for communities living nearby'.
Videos showing entire houses being swept away by the raging river waters have been making the rounds on social media.

National Democratic Movement leader and Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement-linked MNA Mohsin Dawar tweeted about the devastation caused by the flooding all over Pakistan, which had now spread to Swat. "Extraordinary efforts are required to cope with a disaster of this magnitude. Everyone needs to do what they can to help," he said.

In Kohistan, five young men were stranded in the middle of the flood water's path for four hours until they were ultimately swept away by the water and unfortunately perished. Helicopter assistance had been requested for them, but the request had allegedly been denied.
