Mr and Mrs Zulfikar Ali Bhutto pose for a photograph at their wedding in 1951. Bhutto fell in love with Nusrat Ispahani in 1949, when he was an Oxford student visiting home for his elder half-sister's wedding. The only problem was that he was already married. He had reluctantly agreed to wed an older cousin in an arranged marriage before he was 14. He was only able to persuade his beloved to accept his proposal after he got a nod of approval from her father - an Iranian businessman who had settled in Karachi.
