Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi has phoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over the deadlock with the Punjab government regarding Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8 matches in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
The PCB chairman contacted PM Shehbaz to brief him about the impasse with the caretaker Punjab government over the security expenditures of the PSL 8 matches in Punjab.
The fate of PSL games in the two cities of Punjab, including the final set for Lahore on March 19, remains uncertain because interim Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi reiterated that his government is not willing to back off from the security costs associated with conducting the event.
The Punjab government spent Rs600 million on the PSL the previous year, according to Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also stated that "his cabinet is not ready to sanction the expenses" this time around because it is an interim setup.
According to sources, PM Shehbaz assured the PCB chairman of his complete support and assistance.
The PCB chairman said the matches will have to be conducted in Karachi if the Punjab caretaker government doesn't stop demanding money for security and doesn't comply with the requests.
Najam Sethi said that the PSL is a national tournament, and the national institutions are responsible for its arrangements.
