Senator Faisal Vawda submitted an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court in the contempt case on Wednesday, saying that he has placed himself at the mercy of the top court.
"In light of Islamic teachings, I sincerely and unconditionally apologize and leave myself at the mercy of the court," Vawda stated in response to the show-cause notice issued by the apex court.
The development comes after the Supreme Court took suo motu notice of the senator's scathing news conference against Islamabad High Court (IHC) justices last month.
During his press conference, the former federal minister stated that agencies' names were referenced frequently.
"Stop targeting institutions; enough is enough." If there is any intervention by institutions, bring proof and we will stand together [against it] [...] produce evidence and we will stand alongside you," he stated.
The politician was responding to a letter by six Islamabad High Court (IHC) justices to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) protesting about alleged intelligence agencies' influence in judicial affairs.
The IHC justices that wrote the letter to the SJC are Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Fafat Imtiaz.
The court had also served a show-cause notice on Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal.
During the most recent hearing, held on June 5, the court denied Kamal's plea for immediate acceptance of his apologies in a contempt suo motu case, while Vawda refused to apologize for his words against judges.
