A transgender person was shot dead in Mardan while another was critically wounded as the wave of violent attacks targeting the community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) continues unabated.
Trans women identified as Coconut and Sulemane were reportedly shot at by a passing vehicle while walking home on Friday. Coconut passed away from her injuries, while Sulemane remains at hospital.
Just ten days prior, another transgender woman, Chaanda, was shot and killed in Mardan. Earlier this month, four trans women were injured and one was killed when armed men entered their home and opened fire in Mansehra.
Members of the transgender community, including activist Moiz Mehrub Awan, have called on the National Commission on Human Rights and National Commission on the Status of Women to conduct an inquiry into transphobic attacks across the country.

On March 18, the National Commission for Human Rights issued a letter to the Inspector General of Police in KP ordering a report into the murder and hate crimes against transgender persons in the province.
