Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan and other party leaders have been booked by the police over accusations of arson and vandalism in Islamabad on Wednesday night.
An FIR was registered against them at the Kohsar police station after a sub-inspector named Asif Raza filed a complaint. Dawn reported that the FIR includes Sections 109 (abetment), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public service), 188 (disobedience), 353 (assault on public servant), 427 (causing damage) and 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In the FIR, the complainant maintained that he was deployed at Jinnah Avenue near China Chowk along with other cops when he saw 100-150 protestors carrying PTI flags move towards Express Chowk. He added that despite being stopped by the police, the PTI supporters went ahead and pelted stones at the cops. They also set fire to trees, he said, adding that the police were trying to stop them because of imposition of Section 144 in the federal capital.
The second FIR was registered on the complaint of another police official namely Ghulam Sarwar. It included the same sections as the first FIR. The second FIR also included the allegations of PTI workets setting fire to Metro Bus Station and smashing the mirrors of Geo News office.
