Zahida Parveen was born in Amritsar in the early part of the 20th century. She was of the Paerna caste, which is associated in the Punjab with the musical arts. At a young age she was appreciated for her marvel of a voice and was eventually sent to learn classical music from Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan of Patiala. Upon Partition Zahida Parveen moved to Lahore, where she lived for the rest of her days. In Pakistan she became known for singing Multani Kafis, especially those of Khwaja Ghulam Farid. Her style was an unusual mix of very slow glides and sudden serrations. She died in the 1970s. This is an early 78RPM rendition of her Multani Kafi 'A Vass Mandarey Koul'.
